This course is the first of two freshman composition classes and focuses on developing critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. Students advance from personal writing to more academic writing styles as they learn to write for various audiences and purposes using different rhetorical techniques. The course also requires students to respond to readings, learn standard documentation methods, and submit a final portfolio that satisfies department standards.
